On The intransigence of Memory: Very few Chinese people know about the Tiananmen Massacre on June4th 1989. Some have heard that "some people did something" and there is general discomfort and paranoia regarding the topic. Democracy does die in darkness, like the Washington Post says, but the intransigence of memory is a formidable opponent of dictatorships everywhere.
